The coach behind the rules

Match Ready: Football is the plan Aaron Parry would give every grassroots player he can’t coach in person.

Aaron Parry

Aaron is a qualified strength and conditioning coach. He has coached services, amateur and community teams, worked in a professional club’s community programme and completed placements at professional clubs. He has appeared as a guest on podcasts and has hosted them.

That mix matters. Professional environments show what good looks like: planned weeks, monitored players, strength kept all season. Amateur sport shows what actually happens: players with jobs and families, one or two club nights, a game at the weekend, and nobody to change the plan when the week goes sideways.

Why Match Ready: Football exists

Most grassroots footballers get one of three things: a skills app full of drills, a generic gym programme that ignores their fixtures, or nothing. None of them know you trained hard on Wednesday, slept badly on Friday, and have two games this weekend.

Match Ready: Football starts from the club week. It plans around your training nights and match days, by position, and adjusts each session from a quick morning check-in. It also takes the safety side seriously: a head injury return that follows the UK grassroots guidance, pain and red-flag guidance, and honest copy that never claims an exercise stops injuries.

How the coaching rules were written

  • Every rule names its evidence and how strong it is: a study, governing-body guidance, elite data, or coach’s method.
  • A science review checked the rules against current research, and a gap search looked for studies on every rule without one.
  • Untested numbers are labelled. Practical defaults such as readiness cut-offs are marked and will be reviewed after the first season.

You can read a summary on the science page, and every guide lists its references.

What Aaron won’t do

No injury predictions. No risk scores. No heading drills. No claims that a warm-up makes you injury-proof. No telling you you’re fit to play after a head injury. And no guilt-tripping copy when life gets in the way of a session.
